Jabez R Buckman (b. 22 May 1818, d. 21 January 1901)
Jabez R Buckman (son of James Buckman 1 and Susanna Price) was born 22 May 1818 in Lewes Sussex England, and died 21 January 1901 in Nambucca Heads NSW. He married Mary Anne Albury on 8 September 1842 in St Thomas's Anglican Church Mulgoa, daughter of John Albury and Ann Ralph.
Notes for Jabez R Buckman: Jabez Buckman was born on the 22 April 1818. He arrived at Port Jackson Sydney on 22 July 1839. This is a story about Jabez Buckmans Mill . Historians are rather vague on the year his mill was started. . .. Jabez was a lad of 21 when he arrived in Sydney with his parents,brothers and sisters. He was known to have had a mill and timber punts at Myall River,Port Stevens up to 1871 .His special leasefor Nambucca Heads was gazetted in 1879, of five acres with four chain frontage to the Nambucca River.Land to include mill,Wharf and buildings already in use on which the sum of 2000 poundshad been spent .The area was known as Log Hollow with Nanny Goat Hill to the east and school Hill to the west. In 1886, the town and country journal reported that the mill was rather primitive. but effective cut mainly hardwood timber .turning out 35,000 ft of timber per week.The timber that mainly built Callan Park Mental Hospital mainly came from this mill.The mill was later taken over by Mr Bond. It was located on what is now a reserve for Public Recreation and Baths.and in now known as Gordon Park.
