Notes for Blake Alton: The Crown deed to the home farm of the Alton's was for Lot 13, Concession 10, West Wawanosh, where Blake resided. The deed is in the name of Mrs. Agnes Alton and was dated at Montreal on April 12 1848. The price of the 100 acres was 40 Pounds Sterling or close to $200. Daniel Alton and his wife Agnes with their family of 5 sons and 2 daughters in their teens and early twenties had passage booked for Canada from Limerick, Ireland in 1847, when Mr. Alton died suddenly. There was little choice but to carry out their plans and the family sailed on the long sea voyage. Arriving at Quebec City, Quebec, they proceeded to Hamilton, Ontario by lake boat from where they travelled to Goderich, Ontario by wagon. They remained at Goderich for about a year and in the spring of 1849 walked through the bush to what became known as the Belfast settlement where Mrs. Alton took up a large acreage with each of her sons eventually being located on adjacent 100 acre farms. This was the farm where Samuel Alton took his bride Rachel Webster in 1855.
