I am researching my family names of Webster, Young, Glover and Hermitage. My Webster ancestors are from around Scarborough in the North Riding of Yorkshire in the 1800s.William Webster was born around 1800.His son John Webster b.1821 in Thornton le Dale, married Sarah Gill from Pickering in1847. They had 5 children one of whom, George Pearson Webster, was my Great great grandfather. George Pearson Webster married Sarah Barr in 1870, she already having given birth to a child Thomas Webster Barr by him.The 1881 census shows him in York Castle prison, although I have been unable to find any records of the crime.Sarah with 6 children were in Dean Street workhouse in Scarborough while George was in prison.George died in 1882 at home of apoplexy following a year of headaches. George and Sarah had 7 children in total. Two of the boys went to Grimsby and earned thier living as trawlermen.Alice Mary Webster was the second eldest and my Great Grandmother. Alice’s story is still unfolding however I believe she married Joseph Hodgson in 1896.She then went on to have my paternal Grandfather Herbert Scott Webster b.1898.Note the surname.Herbert has no father on his birth certificate despite Alice being married to Hodgson at the time.The1901 census shows Alice still living with Joseph Hodgson and her son Herbert living at a different address in the parish as a Nurse child.Herbert is my paternal Grandfather therefore my father, myself and my siblings are not really Webster!Herbert came to London at some point, possibly after the war where he met and married my grandmother Josephine Clark in Wandsworth 1921.Alice was known to my uncles so she must have followed Herbert to London.I have yet to find a record of her death I have O’Reagans from Adair Co Limerick early 1800s to investigate. They married into the Hermitage family in Lambeth in the 1830s.James Hermitage is the earliest link, born in 1804 in Lambeth. They were Roman Catholic and have very large families with lots of very young deaths. I have yet to uncover anything of great interest on my maternal side.Thomas Glover married Elizabeth Sarah Miller in Charlton Kent in 1852.Their children were all born in Greenwich and Lewisham in the mid 1800s. Their daughter Minnie Beatrice Glover married Joseph William Boniface in Kilburn in 1905.Their daughter Beatrice Sybil Nellie Boniface was my maternal Grandmother
