Jesse WEBB (S3501) was born abt 1766. He and his brother John WEBB (R11245) were in Wilkes County, Colony of Georgia when in 1778 the British landed troops and captured Savanna. Jesse's (S3501) Testimony places him and John (R11249) in a fort at Nail’s Ford on the broad River, Georgia. John was a private, serving an 18-month enlistment in the Patroit army, stationed at Stuard's (Stewart’s?) Fort on the Broad River,two miles east of Nail’s Fort. Colonel Elijah Clarke’s unsuccessful attack on Augusta, Georgia 14,15 and 16 September 1780,forced his retreat. He gathered his men with their families (about four hundred half starved old men, women and children) and took them over the mountains to safety on the banks of the Nolachucky River in what is now Tennessee. John and Jesse were apparently with this group and this was the start of a chain of events that led to the establishment of my Webb Families.
