WHO WE ARE:
James Hill and Catherine Stutts Hill came to Lauderdale County, Alabama in the early 1830's from Moore County, North Carolina. Their children were Hiram, Alfred G., William H. Bunn, and Archibald. These were born in North Carolina and the remaining were Sara Elizabeth, Martha Adeline, Jacob, Souseanah "Susan", and Nancy Bell, all born in Lauderdale County, Alabama.
My family line is from Alfred G. Hill and is probably the interest area of most of the people that will be receiving this newsletter. The main interest area will be family lines that will branch from Alfred G. through his fifth child Henry Augustus Hill. Henry's siblings were Olive, Alphreta, Sara Arella, Alfred Hugh and Jacob Lee. All of Alfred's children were born in Lauderdale County, Alabama. Their mother was Alfred's second wife, Lydia K. Hamill. Several of these family members are buried in the Hill Family Cemetery in Lauderdale County near the community of Atlas. Most seemed to stay in the general area of Lauderdale County.
Augustus Henry was one of the few that ventured out of the state to look for a future. He married Martha Jane Thigpen on September 17, 1885 in Lauderdale County. They later moved to Texas and probably lived in the Sulfur Springs area. He lived for a time in Tillman County, Ok., Wilbarger County, Tx. and Lamb County, Tx..
Nine children were born to this marriage. Orlando Riley, Carter Lee, Charley Henry, Alfred Critt, Myrtle Mae, Grady Parmer, Jack Velton, Opal Rachel and Mattie Florence. Augustus's second wife was Maggie Martha Evans. One child, Tempe Gwendy, was born to this marriage. Most of the people interested in this newsletter will be descendants of one of these listed above.
Purpose of this Newsletter:
It is hoped the newsletter will serve as a vehicle to pass on information concerning our family. "Family" is to be defined as anyone that is a descendant of Henry Augustus and Martha or Maggie. Anyone is considered family that has married into these lines.
News will consist of births, marriages, and deaths. Information as to genealogical information will also be passed along for those that are interested in genealogy. Change of address or major changes that would be of interest to the family members will be included. All news must be restricted to family matters and interest or the newsletter will lose the purpose that was intended. The newsletter's address is listed at the top of the page. Information of events can be sent to either the mailing address or the email address.
It is hoped that the information can be published quarterly. The letter will be mailed to each person by regular mail. If you are interested or any family members you know are interested, please send the address and they will be added to the mailing list. If you are interested in receiving information that is of a priority nature please send me your email address. The email will be held strictly to priority notices so as not to fill your email boxes with uninteresting information.
I plan to publish this for one year and then I will make a decision as to the interest level, time consumed, and cost. These three things will determine whether I will continue the regular mail edition of the newsletter.
How Did I Get This Job?
I became interested in the family history a number of years ago. I really don't know why other than it suddenly became obvious that little information had been kept regarding our ancestors. I saw nothing happening that would prevent the same thing from happening to our generation. So…. I selected myself to do this chore. After a while it became an interesting hobby and evolved into a disease. I guess you could call it "carpal tunnel genealogy".
More on Priority News:
If there is a death, marriage, or birth feel free to email me and I will send it to the "E-family" and then add it to the quarterly newsletter. Time and location of funerals will be posted, birth dates and names, and marriage locations will be emailed on a timely basis. I know that this is not the best way to receive sad information but it is impossible to remember all the ones that are supposed to be notified. Remember that I must know of these events. To get the information sent immediately call me at 806-798-0773.

Ancestor Individual Profile:
We will try to feature a family member with genealogy and family information from time to time. We will include where they lived, what their occupation was and any noted events in their life. I am going to use my profile for the first issue only to give an example of what I think the readers would enjoy. It is hoped that each of you will write a biography of yourself and members of your family so that we may share with others. Please mail or email them to me. I am going to compile a database of bios for future reference and will include these in our family tree data.
