| Family Reunions occur each year during Labor Day Weekend. Members of the Doyle and Thomas families attend. The Reunion is held in Mena. I am researching the family of Thomas Doyle who came from the Springfield, MO area. Thomas Doyle was my grandfather, but I never met him. He served in the Spanish American War. He had a brother named Henry. They both worked for the railroad. His mother's maiden name was Murphy. Her brothers raised Morgan Horses in that area. The brothers' sons went into the laundry business. We believe Thomas Doyle's father was named Mike. Thomas Doyle died in Sweetwater, TX in 1949. It is believed that Mike Doyle and Mollie or Molly Murphy came from Cork, Ireland. I am also researching the family of John Joseph Thomas who was a "distiller of whiskey" in Franklin County, TN before moving to Oklahoma City, OK. His first wife was Dora Bates or Baytes. His second wife was Linnie Ann Cleek who was of German Descent. Her family lived in Mash Bread (spelling unclear), TN as late as the 1930's. Many of the Thomas family settled in Texas. My grandfather William Arthur Thomas married Jewel McNellis, who was the granddaughter of Michael McNellis. Michael also came from Ireland. William Arthur was the son of J.J. Thomas and Linnie Cleek. My maternal grandmother was a Cooper from Missippi. Many of the Coopers settled into Arkansas near what is now Paris. She married a Vaughan, later changed to Vaughn. The Vaughans came from Mississippi, to East Texas and then to Oklahoma. I am willing to share information regarding our family with others researching our family. |
