The Levin/Weinstein Family Tree
The LEVIN family came from the town of Kelme, Lithuania. At its height, it had about 600 families, two thirds of whom were Jewish. It had a large market place in its center, a broad main street, and many small side streets. Many of the Jews traded in grain, wood, hides, and some exported flax. The others worked in various trades and crafts, earning their livlihood from people in surrounding towns, as well as from the citizens of Kelme. It was a Jewish town with Jewish characteristics, an orthodox and observant place, and one of the oldest communities in that area. |
