Updated September 14, 2005

I am interested in the WEINAND name, and specifically searching for the ancestors of Kasper and Kathrina Weinand who lived in Germany in the early 1800s. A son, Philipp, was born November 6, 1833, probably around the Koblenz area (Kochem?). Philipp came to America arriving in New York in 1857. He was naturalized in Lake County, Indiana in 1858. He enrolled in the US Army there in 1862 and was discharged at the end of the Civil War in 1865.
He married Catharine Massoth in 1866 at Crown Point, Indiana. She was born in Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany, in 1847. Philipp and Catharine homesteaded in Seward County, Nebraska in 1870. They had ten children, four of whom survived to adulthood.

I would like to know more about Philipp's family: his parents, siblings and any other relatives and ancestors. He may have had relation in Indiana since much of his early adulthood was spent in this area.

Names I am researching on my side of the tree: Weinand, Massoth, Lennemann, Ankeny, Ofenlach, Frahse, and Colgan. And, on my wife's side: Kamin, Holt, Macher, Soderburg and Walstad.

I would appreciate any information and I would be willing to share what I have.
