THE WELLESLEY FAMILY OF NEVADA
The WELLESLEY family in Nevada is directly related to ARTHUR WELLESLEY (the Duke of Wellington), who defeated Napoleon at Waterloo. The 4TH EARL COWLEY(CHRISTIAN ARTHUR WELLESLEY) arrrived in Nevada in 1933 and married MARY ELSIE MAY, whose family were Nevada pioneers who arrived in Nevada in the 1850's. Her grandfather, George DeRemer, settled in the Reno area as a farmer before Reno was founded in 1868. While he was origanally from New York, most of her other relatives came to Nevada from Lewis County, Missouri, in the late 1800's. Other family members include the Weldens, Longfields and Menkes. |
