Bert Markle Stricken Suddenly
Isaac Albert Markle, 61, well known merchant in Gladwin county since 1921, died suddenly Tuesday evening at his home here of a heart attack.
Mr. Markle was born in Gladwin on October 21, 1897, and spent his lifetime here. He was married to the former Miss Velma Cuddie on August 14, 1927, in Skeels.
Mr. Markle was a business man in Gladwin nearly all of his life. In association with his father, he started a general store 38 years ago under the firm name of S. Markle & Son. This partnership continued until the death of the senior Mr. Markle. In later years dry goods items were dropped from the store's line and the business was operated as a grocery and farm produce market. The orginal building was razed and a modern cement block buildings were built. These were destroyed by fire several years ago and the buildings, now housing the Perry IGA Grocery and Schwager's Variety Store were built by Mr. Markle. After he leased the food store quarters to Mr. Perry, he continued to operate the farm supply store on State Street until his death.
Surviving is his wife, Velma; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Arlene Gould, of Alaska, Mrs. Lola Jean Brubaker, of Beaverton, and Mrs. Iris Irene Lambert, of Gladwin; his mother, Mrs. Mary Etta Markle of Gladwin; and five grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Gladwin, and burial is in the Highland Cemetery.
Mr. Markle will lie in state at the Hall Funeral Home until 1 p.m. on Friday and then at the church until the time of service.

Mrs. Velma L. Markle, 78, of 900 E. Cedar Ave., Gladwin, died Saturday, July 2, in the Gladwin Nursing Home after a long illness.
Born in Sage Township, Aug. 9, 1909, she had spent her lifetime here. She was a co-owner of Markle's Supermarket and Co. of Gladwin from December 1921 to September 1959. Mrs. Markle was a member of the Gladwin United Methodist Church and the Golden Rod Rebekah Lodge 151. of Gladwin.
The former Velma Cuddie, she was married to Albert Markle Aug. 14, 1927, at Skeels. He preceded her in death Sept. 15, 1959.
Surviving are 3 daguthers, Mrs. Dale (Mary) Gould of Beaverton, Mrs. Charles (Jean) Brubaker of Beaverton and Mrs. Tom (Iris) Woodbury of Gladwin; one brother, Don Cuddie of Gladwin; one sister, Mrs. Leone Morgan of Gladwin; 10 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren.
Sevices were held today, Wednesday, at 1 p.m. from the Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin Chapel. The Rev. Joel Hurley officiated and burial was in the Highland Cemetery. A Rebekah Memorial Service was held Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Mrs. Lambert Dies at Son's Home
Mrs. Margaret Lambert, 66, died suddenly Tuesday at the home of her son, Melvin Berkitt, 2736 North Branch Rd.
She was a former resident of Oregon Township. Her husband, Richard Lambert, died in 1935.
Survivors, besides the son, are a step-daughter, Miss Velma Lambert, Lapeer; 4 brothers, Lem Brown of Coleman, Mich; William Brown of Midland, Gordon Brown of Columbiaville, and Stanford Brown of Flint; on sister, Mrs. Alice Shaw of Flint.
The body will remain at the Baird Funeral Home in Lapeer until noon Saturday when it will be taken to the Oregon EUB Church. Funeral services will be conducted there at 2p.m. by the Rev. Carl Patow with burial in Columbiaville.

Last Rites Today for Richard Lambert
Richard Lambert, Oregon Township farmer, died Sunday morning at the Lapeer City Hospital following an operation on Friday for ruptured appendix.
He was born January 1, 1884, in Harrington, Ont. At the age of 5 years he came to Lapeer County with his parents, and has since made his home in the county. In March 1912 he was married to Miss Amelia Kitchenmaster, who died in May 1917.
In July 1925, he was married to Mrs. Ina Burkitt, who survives him. He is also survived by one daughter, Velma, and a step-son, Melvin Burkitt, both at home; two brothers, Joseph of Columbiaville and Isaac of Flint; four sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Brown of Grayling, Mrs. George Rook of Columbiaville, Mrs. LeRoy Reynolds and Mrs. Naomi Monahan of Flint. He was a member of the Oregon Evangelical church.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Oregon Evangelical Church with Rev. R. C. Saxton officiating and burial at Columbiaville.

Mr. Burkitt lived at 710 Lake Shore Dr., Columbiaville.
He was born Sept. 1, 1915 in Gladwin Co, Mich. He married Sarah Mabery in North Branch on Oct. 9, 1937. He was a member of North Branch Lodge 312 F & AM, North Branch chapter 138 RAM, past worthy patron of the North Branch Eastern Star, chapter, 149, and a member of the Bay City Consistory.
Funeral services were held for Mr. Burkitt tuesday at the Blackburn Funeral Home, North Branch, The Rev. Ralph Pratt officiating. Burial was in West Deerfield Cemtery.
Survivors include his wife, 1 son, George of East Lansing, and 1 daughter, Mrs. Paul (Bonnie) manville of North Branch. Also 3 uncles, William Brown of Sanford, Michigan, Stanford Brown of Flint, and Gordon Brown of Columbiaville. Also a stepsister, Thelma Lambert of Lapeer.

Alexander F. Kopiwoda, of Shelby Township formerly of Lexington, died Monday, July 22, 1996 in Shelby Nursing Center, Shelby Township at the age of 76 years.
Alex was born December 2, 1919 in Detroit. Mr. Kopiwoda repaired machines at Chrysler Corporation for 20 years, until retiring in 1982. He enjoyed fishing, playing bingo and gardening.

Shaw, LaVerne-- Of Burton, age 66, died Sunday, August 14, 1994 at Flint Osteopathic Hospital. Funeral Service will be held at 1PM Wednesday, August 167, 1994 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Levi Parish officiating. Burial in Crestwood Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to Bay Valley Hospice. Visitation 7-9Pm Monday and 1-4 and 6-9 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Shaw was born in Paragould, Arkansas on December 31, 1927 and was a resident of the Burton area for most of her life. She married Stanley L. Shaw on March 6, 1948 in Flint. She was a member of Eastgate Baptist church and an avid Bingo player. Surviving are her husband, Stanley; 3 daughters, Linda Tarrence of Chandler, Arizona, Mary and husband Steve Lagasse of Otisville, Deborah and husband Howard McNamee of Jacksonville, Florida; son, Stanley O. Shaw of flint township; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Bernice and husband Buddy McCord and Evabell Hayes both of Paragould, Arkansas, Emmer Graves of Flint; brother, Clarence and wife Mae Gipson of Flint; many nieces and nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter LaRhonda Lamp. A special thanks to Bay Valley Hospice, The nurses of 2 West at Flint Osteopathic Hospital and to the special friends who helped at home.
