Descendants of Allen Robinett

Generation No. 1

1. ALLEN1 ROBINETT was born Abt. 1630 in London, England, and died June 05, 1694 in Upper Providence Twp Chester Co Penn. He married MARGARET SYMM September 29, 1653 in Our Lady of Aldermanbury London England.

Notes for ALLEN ROBINETT:
Allen Robinett, who emigrated to America with William Penn's colonists,
and his many descendants. Most of the data on the early generations was
assembled and written by my late uncle, Allin P. Robinett, 112245-10-1,
of Cynwyd, Pennsylvania. A life time of study was required to collect
this information. The data from an earlier study, initiated by Captain
John D. Robnett, (USN), 13654341, in the 1890s, was used for a large
amount of data and for interesting my uncle in the Robinett family. To
these two men, we owe our thanks for the information to be presented.

The name, today, has three common spellings; Robinett, Robinette,
Robnett. Where possible the correct spelling has been used in the study,
however, as the spelling sometimes changes between generations, and even
within a single generation, for no known reason, I cannot guarantee that
I will
always be correct. Early records quite frequently spell the Robinet,
which is the true French spelling, though Allen wrote his name Robinett.

The reasons given for the changes in spelling are many. From my own
experiences, my name would be spelled correctly more likely if it were
spelled Robinette rather than Robinett. One branch of the family said
the e was added to make the name look French. In another, the e was
added to differentiate one branch from another because of different
persuasions, or sympathies, as in the Civil War. The e was accidentally
added to a name on a birth certificate, and rather than go through the
courts to get the error corrected, the name became Robinette. In early
records, particularly the 3rd and 4th generations, the name was often
spelled phonetically, Robnet, and from that we probably have the present
Robnett spelling in four major branches of the family.

Allen Robinett was neither the first nor the only Robinett to emigrate to
America in the 17th century from England. We have records of three
members of the Robinett name who were in the Jamestown Colony in Virginia
and two who were in Maryland long before Allen came in 1682. However,
Allen is the only one who left known descendants in America.

Allen Robinett, the emigrant colonist to Pennsylvania, was born, probably
in England about 1632; he died 5 June 1694 in Upper Providence Township,
Chester (now Delaware) County, Pennsylvania; married 29 September 1653,
London, England, Margaret SYMM, who apparently predeceased him3, both
buried, perhaps on their plantation in Upper Providence Township or in
nearby Sandy Bank
Graveyard (Friends', founded 1690) on "Providence Great Road" now in the
Borough of Media, PA.
Allen came to America, to Penn's Colony, with his wife, Margaret, and his
two younger children, Samuel and Sarah. His two older children, Allen
and Susanna, emigrated to Maryland, possibly at an earlier date than
Allen Senior. Allen lived in America for not quite twelve short years.
