Harris Weller arrived in New York in 1891. He was in the malted milk, seltzer, and flavorings business. He had four children who were born in Russia/Germany/Poland: Anna, Sarah, Elizabeth, and Joseph (my grandfather). A fifth child, Edith, was born in the US, and her mother, Gittel, was Harris's second wife. The family was centered in the Crotona Park area of the Bronx. As far as I know, his children lived either in the Bronx or Manhattan. In addition, his brother Joseph, also in the seltzer business, lived in Brooklyn. Harris died in 1918. Gittel lived until 1930. Anna married Leon KATZEL, a druggist, before 1910. Sarah married Solomon MINTZ in 1920. Elizabeth married Moses BARROWS, an attorney, and had two children that I know of: Robert, who was approx. 7 in 1920, and Evelyn, who was born 11/20/1915. Emily was married in 1924 to a musician, William Lichandler (I have not been able to corroborate his last name). Any information on any of the above people would be greatly appreciated. |
