We're currently researching the WELLS, SKAGGS, WILSON, GREEN, PHILLIPS, ORR, SCHACK, MILLER and FOLWELL families. We're trying to find our WELLS ancestors from Ripley Co., MO. Charles Wells was born in Missouri about 1898 and his sister, Bertha Esther Wells, was born about 1889. They were both raised as orphans in Ripley County, MO. Charles was raised by the EMMONS family and later married to Lucy May Collins. Bertha was married to Samuel BENTHALL. Their father was possibly named George WELLS.
Lucy May COLLINS was born 28 Nov 1928, the child of Andrew Jackson COLLINS and Cordia SKAGGS. Lucy's husband Charles Wells died in 1928, and Lucy later married Clarence EMERY. The Collins and Skaggs families came to Missouri through Kentucky and Indiana. The families all lived very close to Arkansas, so some clues may come from there, also.
David GREEN was born in SC or GA about 1803, his parents are unknown to us and were born in NC. David and his wife, Margaret, migrated through GA and AL and MS. Their son Bailey Thornton GREEN, born about 1823 in GA, married Malinda MITCHELL from AL. Bailey and Malinda lived in Mississippi in the counties of Chickasaw and Choctaw. Their descendants lived mainly in the counties of Webster, Montgomery and Sumner.
August "Gus" SCHACK emmigrated from Germany to Jackson Co., IL in the mid to late 1800's. Family tradition is that he stowed away on board a ship to escape the German Czar. The family scattered, some moving to Williamson Co., IL.
