The research of our ancestors done by our daughter, Valerie A. Welsh, has stimulated Gayle and me to delve deeper into our family history. The information we have learned about our grand parents and beyond, has opened our eyes to the facts that their stories coincide with the American experience. We have found direct ancestors who were here at the very beginning of colonial America, through the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Civil War, WWI and WWII. We have discovered men and women of importance, holding high office in public service, as well as common farmers, craftsmen and artists. Before our search, the understanding of our forefathers/mothers was vague and in some instances in error. Knowing now what we know, history of America's formation and development has become personal and exciting. What a journey we are all on! I hope our discoveries enrich the lives of other family members as they embark upon their own searches into our history. --Mark B. Welsh, 1944- |
