Bertha M. Baumgartner, one of the well known citizens of Harvey County, Kansas died at the Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton on Wednesday afternoon, May 24, 1950 after 8 years of illness.
Bertha M. Fendrick, daughter of Pauline & Andrew Fendrick, was born August 29, 1875 in Peoria County, Illinois. She came with her famliy to Harvey County and located on a farm NE of Halstead, Kansas at the age of 7 years. She attended school at District 15 & Halstead High School.
On October 12, 1898 she was married to John H. Baumgartner. They established a home on Section 30 in Macon Township, Harvey County where she lived until the death of her husband. Four years later she moved to Newton where she remained until her final illness. She was an active member of the Evangelical Church all of her life.
She leaves to mourn her death 3 sons and 3 daughters:
Clarence W. Baumgartner of Newton Wilton Baumgartner of Challenge, California Lauren Baumgartner of Wichita, Kansas Mrs. L.A. (Ruth) Brown of Coffeyville, Kansas Mrs. C.K. (Leeta) Harbour of Halstead, Kansas Mrs. C.K. (Wilma) Harris of Lake Wales, Florida One daughter Erma Stocks, preceded her in death.
She also leaves 18 grandchildren and one greatgrandchlid and one sister, Mrs. Minnie Schlender of Newton besides many other realtives and friends.[swissallied.FTW]
