Jacob was born about 1755 in Leuenberg, Canton Basel, Switzerland, where his brothers Nicklaus and Ulrich were born in 1750 & 1753 respectively. Later he owned a homestead in Bagischwand, Lauperswyl, Emmenthal, Oberamt Barus. In about 1815-16, still living here, he sold his homestead and the appurtenances thereof to his nephew John Welty, son of Nicklaus, his borher, who at the time was married and moved here, Fredrick Welty of Bluffton, Ohio, so reported in April 1902 to his newphew, S. H. Baumgartner, saying, here all of John's children were born.[swissallied.FTW]
