* "The Reay Family of South Shields/Middlesbrough"*

Updated January 19, 2010

I am researching my family who originated from Wallsend/Harton. I never realised how popular the "Reay" name is the North East of England. I have been reasearching for almost 5 years now and I find it fascinating. I have been to Durham records office to research and the archives in Middlesbrough. My father and grandfather were named Foster (christian name)and I cant find out how or why this originated within the family it seems an unusual choice for a christian name if anyone out there has any suggestions I would appreciate them.
