      176. William Beckett He was the son of 352. William Beckett and 353. Sarah Jennings.

Notes for William Beckett:
I am including this William in my Beckett lineage as possibly Humphrey's father. It is believed that Humphrey was a descendant of William & Sarah (Jennings) Beckett who settled in Gloucester Co NJ. If William and Sarah were married in 1734, it is more likely that Humphrey (born 1782) was their grandson rather than their son. Irving Pierce (I.P.) Beckett in 1949 wrote a family book claiming that William and Sarah had four sons, Josiah, John, Peter and William. Their son William supposedly had a son William who married Rachel. From what I have seen (census records, tombstone, children's marriage records), the William who married Rachel went by the name of Humphrey.

There was a William Beckett in Frederick Co MD, who was listed in the 1790 census, also placed in Frederick Co in 1778, Maryland Oaths of Fidelity. I have not been able to find out anything further about this William. It is possible he is the missing link between Humphrey and William & Sarah, and so I have included him for the time being.

William Beckett, 1790 census, Frederick Co MD, 2-3-3: 2 males over 16, 3 males under 16, 3 females. My rough estimate is that William was born about 1745-1750.

Child of William Beckett is:
88 i.   Humphrey Beckett, born 1782 in The Rocks, Harford Co MD?; died Nov 25, 1855 in Washington Twp, Belmont Co; married Rachel Tyler Sep 19, 1806 in Washington Co MD.
