Randy Wendel of Bloomington MN

In 1880, Henry Wendel left the Island of Fehmarn, Germany, and for s short time lived in Davenport, IA. Here, his bride to be, also from Fehmarn, would later emigrate and meet up with Henry. They were married and had a son before leaving via a mule team for SW Minnesota. Here, they had 2 more sons and farmed a few miles south of Lakefield, MN. Henry's brother, Matt, also emigrated from Fehmarn and lived in the area. In the early 1900's, other relatives of Henry's emigrated to the U.S. setting in Iowa around Davenport and Hawarden, of whom I am seeking as of late 2007.

  This photo taken in the driveway of the Harold Wendel farm in Rost Township, Jackson Co, MN, near Lakefield. This was a gathering at the farm after Henry Wendel's funeral in July 1941. My father, 6 months old, is held by my Grandfather, Harold, located in the back row, second from the right.

  The Wendel farm was initially purchased by Henry Wendel in very early 1900's. The farm was the center of much activity by several relatives over the years. This photo, taken approx. 1980's, is looking NW. Total acreage of the Wendel property was 240 acres, and is located just 1/4 mile north of I-90, 3 miles west of Hwy 86 (Lakefield exit).
