| Very little was known about John Ludwig Werner before he came to America, but from his descendents and naturalization papers , we gather he left Ungedanke, Germany where he worked as a stable boy and immigrated to the United States of America in 1892. In 1894 he sent for Louise Bernhardi, a domestic girl he had known from Braumau, Germany to be his wife. They settled on New Street in Bethlehem, Pa. where he was employed briefly at the Tom Scott Bakery and both became naturalized citizens. He then secured employment at the Dobbins Hosiery Mill in Bethlehem where he worked until the time of his death at age forty-seven. During his brief period as an American he was able to become a property owner, purchasing a double home at 743 Fiot, Bethlehem where he resided with his family and built a home and farm in Middletown, Pa. Not much is known about their life before they came to Pa. |
