Julius Laprelle Elliott grew up on a wheat ranch in Thomas County, Kansas. He graduated from Gem High School, Gem, Kansas.

He attended Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas, graduating with a B. S. Degree in Science. This was at the time of the depression and very difficult to secure employment in his chosen field. So, he came to Carolina where he later became a Postmaster in Spartanburg, S.C. He retired after 35 years with the U.S. Post office.

He had many interests. He was a Deacon of Spartanburg First Baptist Church and taught a young boys Sunday School class for 25 years. He was a deeply religious man, devoted father and husband.
