Alvilda D. Gilbert

Chesnee, SC - Alvilda D. Gilbert, 77, of 425 Martin Camp Road, died Monday at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. A native of Spartanburg County she was a daughter of the late Christopher C. and Edith Cole Mahaffey, and was the widow of Hughlon Gilbert. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by one sister Beulah Roach. She was a member of Cooley Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Kay and John Cantrell of Pheonix, AZ; two sisters, Gertrude Alexander and Eula McKinney, both of Chesnee; three brothers, Ed Mahaffey of Columbus, NC, J.C. Mahaffey of Portland, TN, and Tollie Mahaffey of Chesnee, three granddaughters, Mrs. Robert (Robin) Webster of Hamlet, NC, Tammy Mathes of Texas, and Mrs. Tim (Kimberly) Myer of Arizona, four great-grandsons and three great-granddaughers also survive.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, June 28, 2001 in Springhill Memorial Gardens with Dr. Bruce Russell, and Rev. Scott Buchanan officiating. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends just prior to the service from 1:00-1:45pm Thursday at Forest Lawn Mortuary.
