Doug was active in all activities for community advancement. In politics he followed closely in the footsteps of his father. He served as post master in Eldorado 1893 - 1897. He was interested in the welfare of the young generation and served on the board of Education of Eldorado City Schools for several terms. After the death of his wife, his health gave way and he went to live with his daughter. His death soon followed.
