Weston F. Edwards was born in Watertown, SD on September 29, 1938. I am the son of Mary Anne Schummer and Claude Vernon Edwards. I attended schools in Watertown and graduated from high school in 1956.
My military service was the United States Air Force from 1958 to May of 1962. I was a communications/navigation technician with the Strategic Air Command at Ellsworth AFB, SD and Amarillo AFB, TX. I worked on B52s and KC135 aircraft.
Before and after my military service I was the 3rd generation of Edwards to work for the Chicago and North Western Railroad throughout South Dakota.
On January 2, 1964 I married Mary Jo LaPlante at Darwin, MN. Mary Jo is the daughter of Victor and Rose LaPlante of Darwin.
Mary Jo was trained at Hennepin County General Hospital as an Xray technician and worked at Memorial Hospital in Watertown, SD until we were married.
Since our marriage I worked in the aviation industry associated with the avionics field. I worked as a technician at Billings, MT, Sioux Falls, SD and Minneapolis, MN until starting work with the Federal Avaition Administration as an aviation safety inspector at Fargo, ND. Since September of 1997 I have been working out of the Minneapolis Flight Standards District Office. I will retire on Dec.31, 1999 after 30 1/2 years with the FAA.
Mary Jo has primarily raised our three sons, but did work at the Veterans Administration Hospital and Fargo Clinic in Fargo after the boys were older. She is now retired.
Our boys, Weston (Mike), Jon and Joel have all attended Moorhead, MN schools.
Mike attended North Dakota State University in Fargo, St. Thomas University and St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul, MN. He works as a psychologist in the Minneapolis, MN area and is currently enrolled in the doctorate program at the University of Minnesota,
Jon and Jenny live in Fargo, ND. Jon graduated from Moorhead State University. Jenny is also a student at MSU.
He is also a member of the Minnesota National Guard in Moorhead.
They are the parents of Tori Lyne who is now 7 and Mari Rosewho is now 2. She is a Y2K bug.
Joel studied technical theater at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis but worked as a computer representative in the dorms for three years.
Mary Jo is interested in any information that is available on the LaPlante family of Canada and Minnesota. We have been very lucky with this tree and have lots of information that had been gathered by others that goes back to the 1500s in France. She is also working on the Vacek family of Minnesota.
Wes is working on the Rettinger and Schummer families that immigrated to the North Dakota from Hungary about 1902. He is also looking for information on the Edwards and Bigelow families with roots in the Maqouketa, IA area and who moved to Capa, South Dakota about 1905.
We now reside near Litchfield, MN close to where Mary Jo grew up and we are looking forward to spending our retirement days there.
