| I have been digging for information on the Tweedys/Twiddys of Northeastern North Carolina. Which I have found they can hide very well, but I have succeeded in digging up quite a few. I have some information back to the 1600's. To find out more on the Twiddys I have a book that will be available on Jan 17, 2000 it is called Tweedy to Twiddy of Northeastern North Carolina. To find more information on the book and how to order go to my Related Link - Twiddy Homepage listed below. I have also been searching for the Speights. The first Speight to be found was on a ship list of 1621 a Francis Speight from England to Virginia. In searching these two names I have a list of other names that I am searching. Some of the other names are Staffords, Harris, Sawyer, Benton, Bateman, and etc just to drop a name or two. Well, that is a breif discription of the people I have been searching. Now more about myself, I started this search around 1992, I have been lucky that much of my search is in the general area of Northeastern North Carolina where I am located. I have searched in the following Counties; Camden, Currituck, Dare, Chowan, Gates, Perquimans, Pasquotank, Tyrrell and Washington. Also I have done some brief digging in Washington D.C. Archives. I have enjoyed every minute even grave yard stomping, as my husband calls it. I have met some nice people along the way, which has made the search even nicer. I have helped several people get started in searching their past and now they understand my obsession with my search. So anyone thinking of getting started on searching their family I have a few tips for you. This will almost run you life, for every time you hear a name mentioned, you will think, "is that a name I am searching?". You will not be able to pass a cemetery without taking a glance or two, because maybe someone in your search is there. You will not be able to meet some one with out asking, who are your parents and grandparents and where did you say you were from. Uh oh, if they have the same name as someone in your search, I hope they don't mind talking about their family. I found several relatives this way. And the poor Mailman, you will be so impatiently waiting for him, he may have a package from a far off relative that may shed light on your search. The list goes on but it is worth it all. May God bless you and help you find your past. |
