Notes for Charles A. Stockdale: Married Ellen Jane Kelly, native of New York, on June 26, 1866, in Freeborn, MN. Charles Stockdale was supposedly a school teacher. (Unsubstantiated) Eliza Ellen Stockdale was born December 4, 1870 in Nunda Township, Freeborn County, MN. The family moved to San Luis Obispo, CA sometime in the 1880's. Researched by Janet May Henderson who is researching the Morlan family tree. Eliza (daughter of Charles) married William Elsa Morlan on Sept 14, 1889 in Napa CA.
Charles was a Civil War veteran, serving with Co. C. Second Regiment of the Minnesota Cavalry Volunteers. He was discharged November 17, 1865 at Ft. Snelling, MN. Some time between 1877 and 1881, Charles came to California to join his brother, David F. Stockdale, who had started for California in 1858 and located in the North County area in 1868.
Charles homesteaded in the area north of Parkfield. He married (Sarah) Carrie Woll, who was born in the Parkfield area on April 12, 1875; she was the daughter of Jacob and Sarah Woll, who had lived in the Cholame-Parkfield area since 1874.
