OHN REED:
John Reed was one of the earliest settlers in what is now Scott County Tennessee. He come in the area about 1896, the year Tennessee became a state. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, having served as a private in the South Carolina line, and as a Minute Man in 1781/82.

He married (3) PHARIBA MCDONALD 1840 in Scott County, Tennessee. She was born 1795 in Scott County, Tennessee, and died 1840.

Scott County Archives, County Court Minutes, January 6, 1852- Tuesday morning, the court met and the following proceedings were had and ordered by the Court that Edward Ellis be appointed overseer of a second class road in room instead of Isaac Reed, from the mill at the ford of the river at the Buttram's and that the said Reed had to keep the same in repair.


The first election was held on March 2, 1850 and the following officers were elected: John Lewallen, sheriff; Allen McDonald , County Court Clerk: John L. Smith, Circuit Court Clerk; Issac Reed, Trustee; Riley Chambers, Register.

LLEN REED:
Probley born in North Carolina or Tennessee, he served in the War of 1812, He was drafted into Caption Richard Marshall's Company, 5th Regiment, East Tennessee Militia, on October 10, 1814. He was discharged in May 1815 at Clinton, Tennessee. Allen Reed was living with his son Willey on the East side of New River. His body was taken across the river in a dugout canoe, carried to one of the highest peaks in his own property, overlooking New River Gorge, and buried there beside his wife and children Rebecca and Russel.

Was never married, family lore has it that he was killed by marauding Rebels who attacked the farm and were engaged to find that there were healthy young brothers of service age who choose to remain neutral in the Civil War.
