He was a corporal in Company G, 10th New York Heavy Artillery. Assigned to protect the politicians around Washington DC. untill 1864 when a fellow by the name U.S.Grant got command. They were put into the field as Infantry. President Lincoln promised Grant he would endure the screams if he would get the war over. They marched into a major battle at Cold Harbor Virginia.
