Death of Lorenzo Nichols Sr.
Shortly after 3 o'clock Monday afternoon, March 20, 1905, athis residence, 400 East Eighth Street, the venerable Lorenzo Nichols,peacefully passed to his reward at the age of 89 years, 5 months, and 4days. The funeral which will bestrictly Masonic, will be held at the Nichol's residence at 2 o'clock Wednesdayafternoon, Rev. Bowes, assisted by Dr. McRae, officiating. Interment will take place in the Blue Earthcemetery.
Mr. Nichols was born at Brimfield, Worcester county, Mass.,October 16, 1815. At the age of 4, hisparents removed to Attica, N.Y. OnDecember 28, 1836, he married to Miss Clemana Farnham at Leroy, N.Y. They moved to Wisconsin in 1845 and settledat Theresa, and moved to Juneau in 1862. In 1872, Mr. and Mrs. Nichols settled in the township of Prescott, wherethey lived until March 4, 1896 when they retired from the farm and settled inthe city. For the past 12 years he hasbeen totally blind. On the 18th of lastOctober he fell and injured his hip, since which time he has been unable toeither walk or lie down.
Mr. Nichols has been a Mason for about fifty years. He was a faithful and enthusiastic member ofthat noble order, who tenets were his watch word and his religion.
Eighteen years ago December 28th last, being the goldenanniversary of the marriage of this worthy couple, and also St. John's Day,Blue Earth Lodge No. 57, of which he was a member, celebrated the occasion by"keeping open house" for the occasion. Addresses and a poem were delivered and golden presents bestowedthem. It will be seen that they havebeen married over 68 years. In thewinter of 1830 Mr. Nichols was baptized by immersion and united with theBaptist church. He has lived aconsistent Christian life and was ready to die. He chose the text for his funeral service and made everyarrangement before passing away.
The children born to Mr. andMrs. Nichols were: Mrs. C. L. Sprout,L. N. Nichols, Mrs. Lillie Franklin and Lorenzo Nichols, Jr., of Blue Earth;Mrs. Lottie M. Stevens and Mrs. Rettie E. Dustin of Elmore, and N. F. Nicholsof Juneau, Wis. One son Henry J. diedat Popes Station, Miss., December 16, 1870. The aged wife and children have the sympathy of our community.

Mrs. Lorenzo Nichols Dead
Probably the oldest lady in Faribault County passed away inthis city last Wednesday evening, August 7, 1912, in the person of Mrs. LorenzoNichols, her age being 92 years, nine months and twenty days. The deceased was born in Leroy, New York,November 17, 1819. On December 28,1836, she was united in marriage to Lorenzo Nichols. Death separated them March 20, 1905 in the passing away of herhusband. They came from New York toWisconsin in 1848 and resided there until 1872 when they removed to thiscounty, settling on a farm in Prescott township where they made their homeuntil the spring of 1896 when a residence was taken up in this city.
Mrs. Nichols had been in poor health for some years past,but every comfort was given her by living children. Funeral services were held from the late home Friday afternoon,conducted by Rev. Siniff of the Methodist Church.
The living children all reside in this county and are Mrs.J. H. Sprout, Mrs. Lottie Stevens, Mrs. A. J. Franklin, Mrs. W. O. Dustin, L.N. Nichols, N. F. Nichols, and Lorenzo Nichols.
