Rev. Frederick Schmidt, son of Carl F. G. and Wilhelmina (Schwartz) Schmidt and his second wife, Ellen Hacklander. They are buried in Blue Earth, Minnesota, at Riverside Cemetery. Fred was injured twice in the Civil War and carried a slug in his neck for many years until his death. At his death, the slug was removed and is kept by a family member. He was in the battle of taking Atlanta. He was captured twice.
