      94. Hezekiah5 Whitt (Rev. Richard4, Richard3 Witt, John2, Robert1 Whytt) was born March 1761 in South Carolina, and died March 27, 1846 in Cedar Grove, Virginia. He married Rachel Skaggs, daughter of Charles Skaggs and Lucy Thompson. She was born August 31, 1761.

Notes for Hezekiah Whitt:
1. Hezekiah Whitt appeared in court at age eighty four to state that he was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. That he was born in the State of South Carolina in the year 1760, that from there his father moved to Stewart Creek, North Carolina and afterwards to Montgomery County, Virginia. In June of 1776 or 1777 he went to the relief of Island Creek Fort against the Indians. An expedition was sent to inform Col. William Preston of the damage. He, Hezekiah, marched under the command of_________ and Izrael Gortow and entered the fort which was then under the command of Captain Henry Patton. He served there for one month. In 1779, in March volunteered under Capt. Thomas Masters upon the expedition to Tennessee called then the "Chickamauga expedition" against the Cherokee Indians. Served under various commanders fighting Indians. Also served in the Revolutionary War. (The above information is from the files of Hope Smith - no source is listed)

2. Tazewell County, Virginia - Deed book 9, pages 473-474 - August 9, 1848: James Whitt, Rebekah Low, Richard Whitt, and Susannah Webb to Thomas Brown for twenty dollars each two tracts of land, one for two hundred and forty acres and the other for ninety eight acres.

3. Tazewell County, Virginia - Deed book 9, pages 585-586 - August 17, 1849: John B Whitt and Jonas Whitt to Thomas Brown for twenty five dollars three hundred and forty three acres.

Notes for Dr. Richard Thomas Whitt:
1. Came to Magoffin County, Kentucky about the year 1840.

2. Whitt "lore": One night at a dance Betsy was dancing with another man when her husband, Richard got mad and knocked the man down and bit off one of his ears. This disfigured the man for life and the penalty was several years in prison. As court was only held once a month, Richard left the county and went to Indian Territory where he is said to have married an Indian girl. Betsy later married a man by the name of Deskins, however her children took the name of Whitt. It is rumored that Richard returned home under the name of Deskins.
