Leighton COE (Husband of Pearl Smith, the daughter of John Smith)
Frank
Leighton Coe, 77, former Springfield resident, died in his home at Bookwalter
at 7:15 p.m. Friday. Mr. Coe had lived
in Jeffersonville, and more than 45 years in Springfield before returning to
Bookwalter three years ago.
His
widow, Pearl, a brother, Reece Coe of Springfield, and a sister, Mrs. Annie
Stoughton of near Bookwalter, survive.

MRS.
PEARL COE
Mrs.
Pearl Coe, 76, widow of Frank L. Coe,
formerly of Springfield, died at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the home of Mrs.
Laura Penwell, Washington C.H.
Mrs.
Coe had been confined to her bed since suffering a stroke in 1946. Mr. Coe died in 1947.
Mr.
and Mrs. Coe lived for several years on Catherine st., Springfield.
Survivors
include a sister, Mrs. **(Amy) Nuss, of Sedalia; a brother, Ralph Smith, of
London, and several nieces and nephews.
The
body was taken to the Morrow funeral home, Jeffersonville, where services will
be held at 2 p.m. Sunday. Burial will
be in Fairview Cemetery, Jeffersonville.

INFIRMARY
INMATE DIES (son of Milan Smith)
Joseph
Smith, 80, inmate of the Clark County Infirmary, died at the City Hospital at
1:30 p.m. Saturday of infirmities of age.
He was taken to the hospital Oct. 25.
One
brother, Abel Smith, of Johnstown, survives.

Smith died Dec 30, 1913(from original death certificate).
Milan
Lewis Smith was born Feb. 29, 1812 near Rockbridge Virginia, and after a long
and eventful life passed peacefully to the homeland December 30, 1913, at the
age of 101 years, 10 months and 1 day.
He
had four brothers and three sisters all these preceding him to the home beyond
except Mrs. Harriet Corson of Chilhower Mo.
In
1840 he was united in marriage to Miss Mahala Armstrong and to them were born
seven children, six of whom are still living:
John M. and William of Jeffersonville Ohio; Sara J. Gordin of Pleasant
View Ohio, Joseph H. of Springfield, Ohio, A.A. Smith of Jamestown, and
Cathrine Conner of Gladstone O.
One
of the children having passed away at the age of 12. For 45 years the subject of this sketch and his companion traveled
together hand in hand and heart in heart sharing each others joys and sorrow
until 1885 when his companion was called above. He gave his heart to God more than 60 years ago and united with
the Blessings Chapel M. P. Church and has been a faithful member of this church
up to the time of his departure when he entered the church above, where many of
his friends and acquaintances awaited him.
He spent nearly 100 years of his life in Fayette Co. having come there
when 4 years of age, living most of this time at the old home until about 41/2
years ago, he came.....

Oscar
W. SMITH
Oscar W. SMITH, 78, machinist, died of a heart ailment at 9:50 a.m., Wednesday in his home, 1324 S. Limestone st., after a one-day illness. A native of Fayette County, he was born Aug 7, 1867, the son of John M. and Saphronia BLOOMER SMITH. He lived in Springfield more than 57 years. Mr. SMITH was a member of Clifton Avenue Methodist Church and Bushnell Council No. 163 Junior Order of United American Mechanics. He was a past chancellor commander and life member of Ingomar Lodge No. 610, Knights of Pythias. Mr. SMITH was employed by the Automotive Engineering Co. He is survived by his widow, Mariah; two sisters, Mrs. Amy NUSS and Mrs. Pearl COE of Jeffersonville; and two brothers, Harry SMITH of Jeffersonville, and Ralph SMITH of London, O. The body is at Littleton funeral home, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday by the Rev. I. P. Day pastor of Clifton Avenue Methodist Church. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.
