Raymond Buchanan Martin (They called him Mike)
Exactly! Sharon asked why "Raymond" was called "Mike" as did I one time to Dad(Jack). Answer: "It was the result of people saying, 'Here comes MIKE(i.e., tough guy)'". REAL hard to reconcile with the VERY gentle, quiet man we knew as Gpa Martin, but he had a TOUGH childhood from what I can tell. Father dies when he's six(I think). Mother isn't really a HAPPY camper. He's kinda' small and a pretty kid. He wound up going to the Y alot, playing basketball. Dad said he was a "set shot artist", which means he could "swish 'em" from a ways out(pic's to come on him in his Bball outfits). Sometime between age 25 and 55, he stopped doing that and things kinda' went "south". Again, not what I remember as a Grandson. . . . but then, I do remember Gpa Martin running beside me on my bike, in Columbus, OH, as he taught me to ride WITHOUT my training wheels(Dad was in grad school). He WAS quite a guy and I miss him to this day. . . .!
