Notes for Mary Jane Mills:
The New Providence Baptist Church was the second Baptist Church to be organized in Camden Co., Georgia. It was formed by members from the Hebron Baptist Church. The following is taken from minutes of the Hebron Baptist Church April 21, 1878: "The Church granted a Letter of Dismission to the following named members of Hebron Church, embodied in one letter, for the purpose of organizing and constituting a Baptist Church of like faith and order near Griffin Bluff: Maria Brown, William Brazell, Mary Ann Brazell, Joseph Mills, Eliza Mills, Thomas Simmons, Lucinda Simmons, Joseph Mills Jr., Catherine M. Mills, Benjamin D. Cooner, Thomas Hope, Jane A. Allen, Nancy Williams, Ardeaea McMannus, Victoria Pearce, Sarah Mott, Mary J. Scott, Jane E. Casey, Anna E. McKendree, Margaret Mills, Olive Brazell, Isabella Thomas." It is possible that 'Sarah Mott' is Sarah DeMott Scott, mother-in-law to Mary J. Scott.
The church continued for about 20 years. In 1898, it had practically disbanded. At a conference held on September 10, 1898, we find: "A resolution was offered by Bro. Joseph Mills; 'Whereas, the church at New Providence has gone down, and we being the nearest church to it......

Minutes of the Kingsland Baptist Church: "A meeting was held at Kingsland, Camden Co., Georgia, October 10, 1897, for the purpose of organizing a Missionary Baptist Church. The following names presented letters from other churches of the same faith: Brothers W.H. Peeples, J.S. Thompson, A.L. Yance, Joseph Mills, Sr.,Joseph Allen, William McCathem; Sisters Lillie Yance, Caroline McCathem, Mary Scott, Mary Clark, Sallie Scott, Elmira Allen, and Margaret V. Scott.

Mary Jane applied for Widow's Pension Claim under the Act of 1909 on February 26, 1913 while residing in Maxville, Duval Co., Florida. Application not allowed for reason that she has resided in the State only since the year 1908, while the law requires residence since the year 1895. Mary Jane again applied for the Widow's Pension Claim under the Act of 1915, October 13, 1916, application accepted.

The many friends of Mrs. Mary Scott, 451 East 7th St. will regret to learn of her death which occured suddenly last night. She is survived by son J. M. Scott of Williston and five daughters; Mrs. A. F. Taylor of Jacksonville; Mrs. B. K. Padgett of Anthony. Mrs. C. W. Huey of Wildwood; and Mrs. Lila Perry and Mrs. M. Thomason of Newberry South Carolina. The funeral arrangements in charge of Marcus Conant will be announced later.
