Note:
Jean, my name is Harry Mills, grandson of Asa Arnold Jones (Callahan). I
have enjoyed your desire to share and remember the early pioneers of
Florida with others. Can you assist me on who to contact concerning the
British and Second Spanish Periods of Florida. My line is Joseph MILLS
Sr. m. Elizabeth Lane (LEAN), father Daniel William Lane (LEAN) of the
Plantation Egan (Spanish Florida). Researching links to Ann Mills Point
or Hannah Mills Creek to Joseph and his father Samuel Mills.Samuel Mills
followed Edmund Gray from Augusta 1751,to New Hanover or Burnt Fort
Ga,1755, to Cumberland Island 1758, to Cedar Point on the St. Johns
River~1765, Joseph is listed in the 1783 East Florida Census at Cedar
Point (on the Southern end of Black Hammock Island). I have a copy of
the Spanish Land Grant for two hundred acres of land granted to him from
the Spanish Governor. Joseph as is listed on 1783 Spanish Census MILLS,
Joseph farmer, married, writes for permission to leave the country; he
holds title to 200 acres of land on which he lives; its in a place
called Cedar Point; he has 3 Negroes, 4 horses, his father, Samuel
MILLS, lives with him and he also has 1 Negro. Joseph Sr and Elizabeth
had the following: children : (1)Isabel Rachel, baptized April 29,1790
m.Charles Nevel Drury Oct. 17, 1809 (2) Isabel Mills, born
Oct.23,1793,baptised May 23, 1793, m.George FLEMMING, March 26,1812 (3)
Joseph MILLS Jr. born 1795 m. Margaret Elizabeth McCELLANdec.
28,1826.(4) Ann Sarah MILLS,b. 1799 m.McKINNEYor McKINDREE. Joseph SR.
lost his Spanish Land Grant in 1795, it is listed in the Unconfirmed
Spanish Land Grants. He along other families were found guilty of
attacking Fort Nicholas. He was listed as a rebel and left for
Centerville Georgia where he established a Plantation near Colraine.
Cedar Point is where Joseph and his father Samuel Mills lived during the
British and Spanish Period. Samuel also had a land grants at Six mile
