Elizabeth Clayton was first married in 1771 to Orlando Jones residing at Jones plantation in Albemarle County known as Refuge.Hessian soldiers captured at Saratoga were housed on the Jones Plantation. (Orlando Jones was a cousin of Martha Washington.)There is some confusion over parent/grandparent.Best evidence suggests John Clayton, longtime clerk at Gloucester, Va. and world renowned botanist was her grandfather and her father was John Clayton, his son.
