UPDATE!! Oh boy...am I behind!! It is now February 2009... Still retired and living in Washington and loving it. Have some recent new information on my Lackie (also spell Lackey among my ancestors). Based on the census records I believed that my great-grandfather John Lackey had been born in New York..as well as his brother Samuel and sister Frances (aka "Franny". But I have since discovered they were born in Ireland and came to America with their parents James and Jane (Armstrong) Lackey aboard the 'Atmoshere' (further information below)

BUT before coming to America they lived in Ireland. This new information was gained with the help of my newly found cousin, Bill Lackey. While not confirmed (yet)the link below describes voter registration in Northern Ireland based on landholder requirements. I believe I was able to attach a copy--to my Ancestry.com site-- of the records showing a William Lackey (line 1206) residing in BallyTyrone, part of Grange Oneiland. The value of the land at 40 schillings is registered as of the 3rd of December, 1818.

Other tentures are listed as John Lackey, Thomas Lackey and James Lackey. See explanation of what a freeholder requirement is is at: http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/search_the archives/freeholders_records.htm

Port of Departure: Liverpool
Port of Arrival: New York @ Castlegarden www.castlegarden.org
Arrival Dte: October 10, 1863

Castlegarden was where the immigrant ships arrive before Ellis Island opened.

Note: See Ancestry.com...I believe I was successful in attaching a pic/ copy of the list of passengers aboard the 'Atmosphere' on my genealogy page.

So...we now know that our Lackey (Lackie) family originated in Ireland and then came to America in 1863. The first census for which the family was "recorded" indicated that James and Jane were born in Ireland....but, they chose to record that the young children...Samuel, John, and Frances ("Fanny") were born in New York...although they had arrived on the same ship as their parents (the 'Atmosphere') at the ages of 5 (Samuel:b.Nov 22, 1857), 4 (John: b. Nov 30, 1859), and "Fanny"-under age 2 b.1862).

On the ship's manifest the following members of my family (ancestors) were listed:
James Lackey age 23-Laborer
Jane Lackey age 30-housewife
Samuel Lackey age 5
John Lackey age 4
Fanny Lackey-looks like age under 1
Ref: Line2 Microfilm Serial: M237, Microfilm Roll: M37-23A
List Number 1031

February 2005 Last one was June 2003, so I think it is time don't you? This update finds me retired with my husband, Brian, in the state of Washington. We purchased property here in the very upper northwestern part of Washington in 2003, sold our property in California and here we are! It is an absolutely beautiful place. Lots of trees and wildlife and a view of Mt. Baker. I thank God every day how blessed we are.

I have connected with some other wonderful relatives on my paternal grandmother's side of the family...Sandiford. We are all getting much pleasure out of connecting.....and sharing pictures. I am hoping to connect with other collateral families on my paternal side of the family in the future. Until then...

Best regards ~Tricia
