"Our Whiting Heritage"Updated January 6, 2001 | |
| Welcome to "The Whiting Heritage" a journey through ten generations spanning nearly 400 years of Whiting lineage. The search for our family’s heritage started out as a voyage to discover our family’s genealogy, but as time passed we've discovered both fascinating, as well as trivial facts, about our past family members, their siblings, and numerous spouses. The story of William Whiting and our first four generations in America have been well documented and played various roles in shaping our country. Arriving in the early 1630’s, they settled in Hartford, Connecticut and became active members of the community as Reverends, Deacons and Chaplains. As the colonies grew and we became a young nation, generations of Whitings and allied families served our nation’s defense as Colonials, Majors, Captains, Ensigns, Sergeants and Privates. Later generations became pioneers and migrated westward into New York, North Carolina, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan and California. Generations toiled as farmers, labored as coopers, and worked as blacksmiths. Others became Doctors, lawyers, teachers, and politicians. Thanks to the electronic marvel known as the Interne we’ve discovered many distant cousins. Their help and determination has allowed us to expand the scope of our family heritage and share whatever information we have. As you will soon see, we’ve included brief narratives on many individuals in the “Descendents of William Whiting” while the book “Our Whiting Heritage” has more in depth narratives on our direct descendants. With all that being said, we realize "The Whiting Heritage" is not complete. It is an ever changing historical look at our family, which we enjoy working on and has become somewhat of a periodical pastime. We realize that not all the information found within is 100% correct, and we would appreciate any comments, additional information and remarks regarding our heritage. If ever a Family Research project has been dedicated then we dedicate this project to all those Whitings, male and female, who helped shape our nation in their own unique way. |
