Notes for Josiah Leonard: Josiah Leonard, son of John and Sarah, married Sarah Dumbleton, daughter of John Dumbleton, Dec. 19, 1678. He died Feb. 15, 1688, and his widow married Thomas Root of Westfield. His son John married Mary Leonard
Josiah Leonard had a grant of 30 acres of land lying upon the "...branch of ye brooke, or near it" from the town of Springfield at their general town meeting Feb. 6, 1676. On August 4, 1679 he and his brother Able petitioned for a grant of land, and this was allowed the following February with a grant of 3 acres In Feb. 1683 he again petioned for a grant of four acres, and again in Feb, 1686 for 5 or 6 acres.
Josiah Leonard was chosen a town contable at a meeting March 14, 1703 and sworn in on that day. He was on the committee to survey and determine the boundries of Springfield and Westfield, 1684; eight different years was appointed fence viewer; was appointed Hayward1701. He was chosen as one of the Tything men, March 12, 1721. On Dec. 29, 1712, there was measured to Josiah Leonard, 10 acres of land granted by the town, which land joined to his former grant on the west side, 23 rods in breath and 70 rods in length
