William Whitfield Thrift "Willie" was living at 615 G Street SE Washington DC at the time of his death in 1936.  He had worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for 26 years and was a conductor.  He was killed in New Jersey when he was hit by a car returning to his train.  

He had red hair.  He sold a bicycle to Sedrick Hale when he was young.

Vi worked for the Commerce Department for 30 years, retiring in 1972.  During WWII, she was a courier of secret documents for the government.  After the war, she met and married George N. Adams.  The marriage lasted for 50 years.

1.  9th Virginia Cavalry by Robert K. Krick 4th Ed., 1982, page 76, Hale, James A:  enl 10/24/1861 in Co K. AWOL, July 1862 thru Aug 1863.  Returned to duty under the President's amnesty proclamation, Sept. 1863.  Deserted again by crossing the Potomac on 04/16/1864.  He was imprisoned by the Federals despite his desire to take oath, and was only released from Elmira on 05/13/1865, age 26.  Hale's reason for wanting to desert was, "I got tired of it."
