| I have removed large amounts of information from this page due to the inability to update the information as I desire because of restrictioons put in place by Family TreeMaker. I will maintain all of my data on my home computer and will make it availabe upon request, in PDF format, upon email request. It contains Family Books for the following families: Wemyss, Wymes, Whims, Dent, Evans, Houston, Roosa, Moser, and related families. We are searching for descendants of David Wymes/Whims, born about 1780 in Ann Arundel County, Maryland, and for those who preceded him. He had two sons, Joshua and Caleb, and three daughters, Elizabeth, Sarah and Rachel. I have extensive information on Joshua and Caleb and a little information on Rachel. I have very limited information on Elizabeth and Sarah. David seems to have been born without parents or siblings. He appears on mo census reports. There are records of his enlistment for the War of 1812 in a New York Regiment. I beleive at this time, that his real name was actually WEEMS, but he also went by David Wymes. I have been unable to establish an actual connection but have speculated and added a possible and plausible connection back to the Clan Wemyss of Scotland. Please send any information that you may have to me at either the E-Mail address or the Post Office address. Information received will be greatly appreciated and periodically added to this report. Apparently, about 1806, David, Rachel and children were migrating West by wagon when they were overtaken by Indians; Rachel was killed. After placing the children with friends, David apparently went to Beaver County, PA in 1806. He is known to have served in the Army during the War of 1812 and for this service, he received bounty land in Knox County, IL. He owned land in Brooke County, VA (now West Virginia) from 1802 until 1839. His second wife was named Nancy and they lived in Brooke County. Some time later, he disappeared in the West or possibly New York (or Ontario, Canada) where he served during the War of 1812 but is known to be buried in Montgomery County, Ohio. His wife Nancy, after his disappearance, married Jerimiah Hawkins who died in December, 1834. He may have been married and had another family during the period 1815-53, as there is no record of his activities during this period. I have been unable to locate him on any census report. My grandmother, Sarah Lee Jackson Dent was the daughter of James Evans DENT who died at the Union Prison Camp at Point Lookout, MD. Her brother William also died in that War. We are looking for information on her siblings Marshall M., Cyrus M., George L., Newton Raemer, James L. and Anne Gail, all born before the Civil War. |
