Notes for Joseph Lantzy, Jr.: Joseph Lantzy Jr. was the 4th child of Joseph and Mary Ursula (Bitter) Lantzy, the emigrants. Joseph was about 4 years old when the family arrived in Cambria county. According to the 1820 census, the family was living in Schuylkill County. It is also known that Susanna was baptized in Lebanon, PA, in 1821. No doubt the family was still living in Lebanon, PA when Joseph Jr. was born.
After the arrival of Joseph and Ursula Lantzy with their family in Cambria County in the latter part of 1826 or early 1827, they settled in Barr Twp. near the present town of Spangler, PA which was then known as the Smith farm. The Lanzy homestead remained in the family until 1919 when the property was sold to the Watkins Coal Co.
Joseph Lantzy Jr. and Mary Ann Bagley were a farming family. Joseph purchased 200 acres of land from James C. Fisher and Samuel F. Fisher for $350.00 located in Carol Twp. (later Barr Twp.) on 9/21/1854. This is recorded at Ebensburg, PA courthouse Vol. 13, page 688 in May 1855. Joseph also purchased 63 and 1/4 acres from Abraham Kerns on 3/26/1862 for $300.00. This was the adjoining property to the original 200 acres and was recorded in Vol. 19, page 617 at the Ebensburg, PA courthouse.
Joseph's school days were few but he got along well with people as in those days your word was honored and respected.
