The James and Ruby Wick Family Home Page

We have been researching Jim's maternal ancestoral and contemporary related families (Hookom=Håkansson, Anderson)for several years and have just begun to explore Jim's paternal lineage (Wick, Hoppe) and Ruby's family history (Kuhlenbeck, Ulrick, Wilkerson, Rudy). My mother's family emigrated from Sweden in 1867 and 1869. They came from Småland and Östergötland, in southern Sweden. The villages of Ulrika, Bodafors, Malexander, Skinskälla, and Kvillsfors figure prominently as homesites. Prominent names in Sweden are Håkansson, Smedberg, Dahlstedt, Lagerqvist,Loven, Persson. My oldest known ancestors are Bengt i Mänhult of Malexander, born in 1540, Karl i Bollkind whose son Eric Karlsson was born about 1570,and Harald i Mjölsefall whose son was Sven Haraldsson born in 1570. Many Americans of Swedish descent trace their ancestry to one or all of these persons.
Some seventeen generations are represented in the family records at this time. Some information is on deposit at various Swedish and American museums and archive centers under the title "Our Swedish Connections". I am interested in learning more and sharing information with interested persons.
