This web site is dedicated to my Irish Ancestors

"John Keany/Keaney & Margaret Flynn" 1830-1890
"Francis James Keaney & Anne Cryan" 1861-1937

For the "moments" we never shared with one another.
For the "love" we always knew in our hearts.
Yours was another time and another place.
You will never be forgotten.
Thank you for the great sacrifices you made for your family.
"May your souls forever rest in peace."

With our love,

Your Family.

*****************************************************************************************

My name is Barbara Keaney Wicks. I am researching The Keany/Keaney family, subdivision of Boyle with Ballinafad, Co.Roscommon, Ireland.

My maternal Great Grandparents were "John Keaney" & "Margaret Flynn"(1844-1890) My Great Grandfather was a "farmer". They had a large family of 8 children. The baptisms took place in the Catholic parish of Taunagh Catholic RC Church, Co. Sligo.

My Grandfather, Francis J. Keaney (1861-1937) emigrated from Riverstown, Co. Sligo, Ireland to America about 1884. He signed his Letter of Intent April 2, 1889. His address was listed as 1373 Atlantic Ave., Brooklyn, N.Y.at the time. His occupation was listed as "Porter".

He was Naturalized Oct. 5, 1894 (sponsor on card: Eugene Fox, a printer, who resided at 343 E. 117 St. N.Y.C) He served in the Spanish American Way.(1888-1889) He died at the Va. Hospital, Bath, N.Y. on Nov. 23, 1937.

He married Anne Cryan, also from Ireland. She was b:April 4, 1869 in the Town of Boyle & Ballinafad, Co. Roscommon. Her parents were James Cryan & Mary Foley. Her father was listed on her birth certificate as being a "Tailor".

There are various spellings of this old Irish name, Keany/Keane/Keeney, which can really be confusing when doing the research.

A special "Thank You" to those of my family for providing their own information. My cousins, Gail Muti,Patty Sinkinson & Donald Keaney.

Forgive me if you find some errors in this report. Please e-mail me, so I can make corrections.

I hope this information will be helpful to those, who are researching the same Family Tree. Maybe even add a new branch or two.

Reunion plans are in the making for a "Keaney Clan Reunion" to be held in Co. Leitrim, Ireland in 2002. If you are interested, please contact Gkeaney@aol.com.
