The purpose of this site is to share some interesting, unusual and hard to find Soufflenheim genealogy and historical information, and to describe the various types of records available for research. The emphasis is on genealogy research prior to 1743, the year of the earliest surviving church records and the year that genealogy research in Soufflenheim typically ends. I'm also researching the family of Anthony Kieffer, who came to the United States in 1830 from Soufflenheim, Alsace, France / Germany, and settled in East Eden, Erie County, New York. With him came his wife Catherine Burger and their children Sarah, Josephine, Catherine, Barbera, Peter, Mary Ann and Philipp. In 1832 Anthony's brother Joseph Kieffer came to the United States and settled in East Eden. He came with his wife Richardis Burger and their children Josephine, Primus, Paulina, Catherine, Philippine and Caroline. Anthony's cousin Joseph Kieffer came to the United States with his wife, Madelaine Schoeffter, and children around 1834 and also settled in East Eden. Anthony's children Josephine (m. Philipp Klein), Sarah, Peter, Phoebe (m. Casper Kreidermacher) and Barbera (m. Gregory Ritt), eventually moved to Elba, Minnesota. Catherine (m. Peter Behringer) and Mary Ann (m. John Schwartz) moved to Buffalo. Anthony's son Philipp Kieffer stayed in East Eden and married Mary Ann Haller in 1858. They had eleven children: Catherine (m. Charles Vincent), Philipp (m. Louisa Frew), Mary Ann (m. John Reif), Charles (m. Elizabeth Bangasser), Joseph (m. Mary Kramer), Rose (m. John Hartwig), William (m. Catherine Heaser), Anthony (m. Clara Dole), John, Peter, and George (m. Blanche). Charles, Joseph and William moved to Elba, Minnesota in the late 1800's. William Kieffer married Catherine Heaser in 1895. They moved to Minneapolis in the 1920's and had five children: Florence (m. Philip Moore); Henry (m. Mamie Raden); Leonard (m. Helen Narocki); Loretta (m. Warren McGuire) and Robert (m. Ann Olson). |
