SOUFFLENHEIM NOTARY RECORDS AFTER 1792

 

Beginning in 1792, most notary records for Soufflenheim are found in the Roeschwoog notary records. A few can also be found in the Haguenau notaries and perhaps the Bischwiller notaries as well. The notaries are in German until 1810. Some records are in French beginning in 1810 and others begin in 1820. There are no indexes for inventory records before 1848. The records of all localities in the district are mixed together and organized by year. There are no bundles of records specific to Soufflenheim.

Inventory after death of MICHEL KIEFFER, who died 6 years ago in Soufflenheim and was a mayor of the place. His widow being : CATHERINE WENGER, assisted by Louis Wenger, burgher of Rohrwiller, her brother.

Witnesses : Joseph Messner, mayor and Philipp Kieffer, mayor's help.

IGNACE, aged 14, the last two born of second marriage to the present widow CATHARINA WENGER.

 

A marriage contract was passed the 4th February in year 1782 in front of notary of Haguenau, the 6th of February ; and concerned the house granted to the wife during her life ; this house has been sold at time of emigration of the deceased during the Revolution, and bought back on his return.

This house with one side Joseph Strack, the other side the Allmend Gässel, upper side the Bischwiller path, and down Joseph Daul's widow is estimated 1300 florins.

Compared Louis Bauer, justice officer in Haguenau, to notify to:

ANTOINE, JOSEPH and THOMAS KIEFFER in Soufflenheim, the request of JOSEPH MULLER of Soufflenheim concerning a sum of 160 livres that is now in hands of the notary and waits for them.

 

[It does not say exactly why this man has paid 160 pounds to the three Kieffer named].

September 6, 1796 (20 Fructidor Year 4) Roeschwoog 7E44/10: Marriage Contract 

Marriage contract between:

MICHEL KIEFFER, burgher in Soufflenheim, son of deceased JOHANNES KIEFFER and of MARIE ANNE STIEFFELMEYER his widow, assisted by JOSEPH MESSNER, son in law,

to CATHARINA MESSNER, daughter of deceased ANTON MESSNER and of MARIA ANNA LEHMANN his widow, now remarried to JOSEPH MESSNER, step father of the bride, and in presence of GEORG ADAM, guardian of the bride.

 

The widow born Stieffelmeyer gives to the new couple her house sited in the streets of Haguenau and Soufflenheim and estimated 2400  pounds (livres) ; the couple will keep the house until the death of the mother, and promise to pay for taxes and necessary repairs ; they will also see that sister MARIE ANNE KIEFFER will receive her share of the heritage, at time of death of the mother, and so will the minor children : ANTOINE, RICHARDE and BARBARA receive their own share at time of their marriage or at time of her death. The total brought into the union is valued to : 4000 pounds on each side.

Marriage contract between:

JOSEPH HALTER, burgher in Soufflenheim, son of JOSEPH HALTER senior, and of his deceased wife MAGDALENA VOGEL, and MARIA ANNA KIEFFER, daughter of LORENTZ KIEFFER, son of Peter, and of CATHARINA LEHMANN of Soufflenheim.

 

The acquired property will be divided in two equal share at time of death of each of them ; donation : by Joseph Halter father of his house in Soufflenheim, Bischwiller street, valued 800 pounds, the couple will see for the repairs and taxes ; the bride's father gives 1/2 acker field in district named Hecklum one side Joseph Messner, the other side Anton Messner, and one cow, the nuptial bed, and several pieces of furniture, also cereals and the whole valued 400 pounds.

The total brought in the union is valued : 1400 pounds.

A marriage contract was passed the 24th November 1760 in front of the notary of Haguenau between JOHANNES WILD son of deceased JOHANN GEORG WILD, once burgher in Göcklingen, and of ODILIA KLÖCKNER his wife, assisted by Martin Judt in Soufflenheim, and

MARIA ANNA KIEFFER, daughter of ANTON KIEFFER burgher of Soufflenheim and of EVA WAGNER his wife, the bride assisted by her father.

 

Anton Kieffer give his daughter his house in Soufflenheim one side the bridge, the other side Mathias Goetz, and Friedrich Goetz, behind is Antoin Kieffer, the house valued to : 550 gulden.

The husband's step father, Martin Judt in Soufflenheim gives him three pieces of fields in district Obermatten one side Catharina Harter, the other side the church's property,  in district Mittelfeld a piece near Hans Mey, Hans Georg Klipfel, and one piece district Stiederhoh one side Joseph Hofmann, the other side Mathis Bocken's widow.

 

 Follows an inventory of over 80 pages describing furniture and so on.

Marriage contract between MICHAEL ELCHINGER, son of JOSEPH ELCHINGER in Soufflenheim and of his wife MAGDALENA BURGER to RICHARDE KIEFFER, daughter of deceased JOHANNES KIEFFER and of ANNA MARIA STIEFFELMEYER his wife and widow now.

 

The property will be limited to what is acquired during the union, to be divided in two shares.

What is brought into the union is :

The house brought by Michael Elchinger and valued : 1660 pounds.

The husband also brings a place to build a house and the necessary materials, also money due in amount of 746 pounds. Witnesses are Joseph Kieffer, Anton Mey and Amsler.

February 10, 1799 (22nd Pluviose Year 7) Roeschwoog 7E44/15: Guardianship

Compared the guardians : Johannes Moser and Joseph Brotschi, for JOSEPH and MICHEL KIEFFER, sons of deceased MICHEL KIEFFER of Soufflenheim, concerning their interests and payments of these from the 4th June 1789 (election as guardians) in district Fort Vauban, town Roeppenheim. Refers to one more account passed in year 6 the 22nd of Messidor.

 

The father having emigrated to the other side of the Rhine, his property had been put under sequestration, and the guardians named. They deliver receipt of these accounts.

A marriage contract has been passed on the 31st July 1790 in Forth Vauban between :

MICHEL KIEFFER son of deceased LORENTZ KIEFFER and of EVA MOSSER his wife in Soufflenheim ; in presence of witness Thomas Kieffer, and CATHARINE MEY daughter of JEAN MEY, weaver and of FRANCISCA FREISS his wife.

 

Convention passed on house in Haguenauer Street one side Joseph Daul, the other side the Judengass and Haguenauer path ; valued : 600 gulden. This house will have to be shared at time of death with their share to brothers and sisters. Several other goods mentioned as fields etc.

Sale of furniture in Year 11 the 16th of Frimaire :

Inheritance of deceased MICHEL KIEFFER in Soufflenheim.

Sale requested by Michel Stettner, guardian of JOSEPH KIEFFER JUNIOR, and guardian of the minor children and brothers of the same. Sale of furniture of deceased Michel Kieffer their father.

Elisabeth Bögler gives a house and dependences in Soufflenheim on the Allimentgasse, one side Jacob Messner, in front Joseph Burger, behind the Allimentgasse, valued : 1000 francs, plus 100 francs furniture.

Joseph Stenzel, woodcutter in Soufflenheim passes contract with JOSEPH KIEFFER JUNIOR farmer in Soufflenheim ; loan for 7 years of several fields that are his property in Soufflenheim in districts Firlenfeld one side Joseph Zinger the other side Lorentz Wagner, and others. The interest that will be paid during the 7 years is of 21 francs 43 centimes for a sum of 150 francs value.

The father of the young man gives a half of his house in Soufflenheim : one side Heinrich Simon, the other side Jean Hummel, upper side is Michel Schaeffter and Antoine Schlosser for part ; the value of the house to be compensated between the brothers of the new married up to : 600 Gulden, so 50 Gulden each St. Martin's day ; also two oxen are given value : 260 Gulden.

 

The father of the bride gives : 200 gulden.

1807 the 3rd April : Sale of house by PHILIPP KIEFFER son, farmer in Soufflenheim, guardian of the minor children of JOSEPH WAGNER and ANNA MARIA KIEFFER, his deceased second wife in Soufflenheim. Second guardian is Jacob Haupt.

The husband brings a house in Soufflenheim in section Oberdorf, one side Peter Burger, the other side Martin von Hatten, behind is Michel Höhn, in front the street. The father of the bride brings into the union 40 gulden, plus the tiles for the house, also new windows, doors and furniture.

 

The property acquired during the union will be considered as common.

The house mentioned in the marriage contract has been exchanged during time of marriage in front of notary of Bischwiller the 12th Ventôse year 5 and valued : 800 francs.

The total inheritance after this sale is of 548 francs.

Half a house is brought into the union by Antoine Kieffer, the second half belongs to Joseph Kieffer who keeps a right of passage and a community of the well ; the father, Philipp Kieffer, reserves his right to stay in the house and brings also fields into the union as total of : 1800 francs.

The husband's father leaves his house in Soufflenheim to the new couple for 740 francs.

This house goes to Philippe Kieffer, the heir, as from his marriage contract to FRANÇOISE SCHLOSSER of Soufflenheim, passed the 9th of this month.
