Inns

Early Soufflenheim Inns and their owners.

Unknown Inn

(Owned by Lorentz Schaeffer in the 1660s and 1670s)

The inn was not "The Crown", which was owned by Lorentz Cron and Paul Mosser.

In the 1665 Town Account, there is a place where people ate and drank referred to as "at Mr. Utz, near Lorentz Schaeffer". The local government spent about 13 R there from January to October. There is another place referred to as "The Inn Of Utz Near Paul Mosser". The local government spent money about 5 R there from August to November. All the mayors of Soufflenheim during the second half of the 17th century were named Schaeffer. So they gave most of the village business to a member of their family.

In  the 1685 Lorentz Schaeffer inventory, he is owed money form his children Franz and Barbara. It says: "This sum of 3 at time when the inn was sold and received by them." So either the inn was sold to them and they received the inn, or money worth 3 was received by them after the inn was sold.

In 1665 Lorentz Schaeffer paid tax on 174 measures of wine and Paul Mosser paid tax on 69 measures of wine, so both were innkeepers. Paul Mosser died before 1691. Another Paul Mosser, presumably his son, is mentioned in 1699 as the inn landlord of "The Crown" in Soufflenheim. Lorentz Cron, another early innkeeper, was the stepfather of Paul Mosser. In 1684 Lorentz Cronenburger is listed as the inn landlord of the inn named "The Crown".
