| Wigston is a relatively uncommon name but nevertheless a notable one in the county of Leicester during the 15th and 16th centuries after which their influence seems to have declined rather rapidly. My own branch of the family comes from Cumberland and Northumberland and I can at the moment trace the family tree back to Thomas Wigston (born 1809 and died 1910).Records are a bit thin at this point and although I have been able to identify two sons ( William and Samuel) I have no record of any other children or who he married. What is evident from my research is that until the late 1800's there were two principal clusters of Wigstons, one in Leicester and Northants and the other in the North West in what is now known as Cumbria. Two other members of the family, one in the north and the other in the midlands are also active in researching the family tree so perhaps we will succeed in 'making ends meet'.I would appreciate any information which might further our research. |
