Mrs. Wilson, Former City Woman, Dies
Mrs. Dicea Wilson, 89, a former resident of this community, died Saturday evening at the Nelson Nursing Home in Fairfield where she had lived for several years. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Pursel-Davis Memorial Chapel with the Rev. John H. Alexander in charge. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. She was born March 17, 1874, in Lee county, Ill., daughter of Martin U. and Delilah Ramage Van Swearingen. When she was four years old the family came to Carroll County and after her marriage July 23, 1893 to Charles E. Wilson, they came to Marshalltown to live. Mr. Wilson died in 1936. Surviving are two children, Mrs. Ralph Moyer of Fairfield and William M. Wilson of St. Petersburg, Fla., three grandchildren and five great
grandchildren. Mrs. Wilson was a member of First Congregational Church and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

C. E. WILSON DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS
Charles E. Wilson, for 30 years a solicitor on rural routes for the Times-Republican, prior to Sept. l, 1934, passed away at 1:45 o'clock this afternoon at his home, 111 West Grant street, after a long illness. Death was due to thrombosis. Mr. Wilson was born near Marshalltown, Dec. 23, 1867. He became widely known over central and northern Iowa as a circulation man. He retired in 1934 when his health failed. Mr. Wilson is survived by his widow, a son, William M. Wilson, Chicago; a daughter, Mrs. R. H. Moyer, Fairfield, and three grandchildren. No arrangements had been made for the funeral this afternoon.
Charles Wilson's father, William G. Wilson married Caroline Pierson 17 May 1866 in Gilman, Marshall Co. IAHe served in the Civil War and was captured and spent 9 months in Andersonville prison.

Notes for WILLIAM MARTIN WILSON: William graduated from Marshalltown High School. He attended and graduated from Grinell College in Grinell, Iowa. Upon graduation, William worked as an investigator with Retail Credit in Chicago, Illinois, and later in the same capacity with Equitable Life of New York. William entered and served duty with the United States Navy as a Lt JG in 1942. He was with Naval Intelligence, Philadelphia, serving at sea. Upon his discharge at San Diego in 1945, William returned to Chicago and worked in the Veteran's Administration until moving to Des Moines, Iowa in about 1948 when he entered Drake University Law School. He graduated in 1952 and worked for the State of Iowa until 1957. William and Frances then moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, where William died in 1976, and Frances is still living at address - 4901 Venetian Blvd NE,in 2000. |

Former Resident Buried Here Monday
Funeral services were held at English Lutheran church Monday afternoon, May 14, for Sarah Viantha Scheiber, 86, who passed away at 11:40 p.m., May 7, 1962 at Portland, Ore.Services were conducted by Rev. A.C. Erickson of Ruthton, in the absence of Pastor Foss. Internment was in Memorial Hill cemetery.
Short services were held May 10 at her home church in Portland, Ore. prior to shipment of the remains to Lake Benton.
Sarah Viantha Van Swearingen was born on a farm near Manning, Iowa, in Carroll county, on April 19, 1876. She was 86 years and 18 days of age at death.
She was united in marriage to John Henry Scheiber in April, 1893. They traveled in a covered wagon to Lincoln county, Minn. where the ymade their home on a farm until 1934 when they moved to a farm in Rock county. After two years residence there they moved to Lake Benton to reside.
In June 1937 her husband passed away, and in 1956 she moved to Portland, Ore. to make her home with her daughter, Bertha.
To this union 14 children were born, 11 of whom-six sons and five daughters, are still living, i.e. Paul of Lucerne, Calif.; Fred of Sioux Rapids, Ia.; Alvin of Worthington; Roy of Sioux Falls, S.D.; John Jr. of Willmar; Vernon of Phoenix, Ariz.; Luella Lillibridge of Wichita, Kans.; Irene Stevens of Portland, Ore.; Minnie Koll of Lake Elmo, Minn.; Bertha Scheiber of Portland, Ore., and Bernice Rhinesmith of Beamon, Ia.Three sons preceeded her in death.
Those left to mourn her passing besides her children are 38 grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren. She also leaves one sister, MRs. Dicea Wilson of Fairfield, Ia. along with several nieces and nephews.

JOHN HENRY SCHEIBER STRICKEN; BURIAL SAT.
John H. Scheiber passed away early Thursday morning of last week at his home in this city, after an illness of considerable length. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, June 19, from English Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. O.J. Nesheim. Internment was made in Lake Benton Memorial Hill cemetery.
John Henry Scheiber was born in Jackson county, Iowa, March 10th, 1867. On April 19th, 1893 he was united in marriage to Sarah Van Swearingen at Preston, Ia. To this union fourteen children were born, twelve of whom survive.
In June, 1893 the family moved to Lincoln county and for 34 years resided on a farm near Lake Benton. They then moved to Rock county, Minn. and resided on a farm north of Luverne until September, 1935 when they moved to Lake Benton to reside. For sometime past Mr. Scheiber had been in ill health and suffered greatly during the latter months of his life. At his death he had attained the age of 70 years, 3 months and seven days. He was a member of the English Lutheran church of this city.
Surviving him to mourn the loss of a loving husband and a kind father are his wife, Sarah Sheiber, seven sons and five daughters; Paul of Walnut Grove; Fred of Marathon, Ia.; Louis of Faribault; Alvin of Verdi; Roy of Hardwick; Johnny of Cambridge, Minn; Vernon of Rock Rapids, Ia.; Mrs. Luella Lillibridge of Morrowville, Kans.; Mrs. Irene Stevens of Winner, S.D.; Mrs. Minnie Koll of Hardwick; Bertha Scheiber and Mrs. Bernice Rhinesmith of Lake Benton, and twentyfive grandchildren.
Mr. Scheiber was respected in the community and bore his many months of sufering with remarkable patience. His sorrowing family have the sympathy of a large circle of friends.
Two sons, Louis and John Jr. and a daughter, Luella were unable to attend the funeral services. Other relatives besides the remainder of the children, in attendance were: Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ehlers of Flandread, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Hy. Ehlers of Elkton, S.D.; Mr and Mrs. T.A. Swearingen, Spirit Lake, Ia.; Mr. Elmer Pierson and Mrs. Mina Carlisle, Edgerton, Minn.; Mrs. Adolph Grundmeier and son, Walter, Blackduck, Minn.; and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wiese and family of Worthington, Minn.

Vordale at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ringner at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon.Mrs. Martin Mathison, Mrs. George Anderson and Mrs. Virgil Asbjornson, accompanied by Miss Clara Peterson, sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." He was carried to his final resting place by Fred Scheiber, Alvin Scheiber, Roy Scheiber, Dick Koll, Vernon Scheiber and Donald Scheiber. Louis Cecil Scheiber was born April 18, 1905 at Lake Benton. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith in infancy at Elkton and passed away October 7, 1950, at Faribault, Minn., where he resided since he was 12 years old. The immediate cause of his death was a recent operation. He leaves to mourn his death, his mother, Mrs. Viantha Scheiber of Lake Benton; six brothers: Paul of Albany, Calif., Fred of Sioux Rapids, Ia., Alvin of Worthington, Roy of Cambridge, John Jr. of Cambridge, Vernon of Rock Rapids, Ia.; and five sisters: Luella (Mrs. Luella Lillibridge) and daughter Darlene, of Maryville, Kans., Irene (Mrs. Leslie Stevens) of Portland, Ore., Minnie (Mrs. Richard Koll) of Castlewood, S.D., Bertha Scheiber of Portland, Ore., Bernice (Mrs. Wharton Rhinesmith) of Gladbrook, Ia.His father and two brothers preceded him in death.
