All the Jones's

I thought you might be interested in the following which I've copied from=page <http://www.wp.com/walesnet/namelist.html>

Shortly after the Act of Union in 1536, which joined Wales to England, =

(not at the request of the Welsh, at the "request" of Henry the VIII) the following piece of doggerel was published by the then Bishop of Lichfield:

"Take ten," he said, "and call them RICE;
Take another ten, and call them PRICE;
A hundred more and dub them HUGHES;
Take fifty others, call them PUGHES;
Now ROBERTS name some hundred score;
And WILLIAMS name a legion more;
And call," he moaned in languid tones,
"Call all the other thousands- JONES."

So that's where they all came from!
